WHAT IS MASSAGE THERAPY?
It’s the physical manipulation of muscle tissue and fascia of the body used to increase blood flow, as well as stimulate energy and organ systems. Massage therapies include remedial massage, reflexology, shiatsu, trigger point therapy, and exercise therapy. Massage therapists apply these massage therapies to reduce muscular tension and aches and pains, while improving healing abilities and the general sense of health and wellbeing.
Employment Pathways
After achieving the HLT42015 – Certificate IV in Massage Therapy, candidates will have achieved the skills to obtain the following occupational position as a Massage Therapist, Massage Therapy Practitioner or Assistance Massage Therapist.
Entry Requirements for Domestic Students
- All students must be of the age of 18 years or over at the time of applying for admission at the College.
- Entry into this course requires successful completion of an Australian Year 11 qualification or equivalent.
- Relevant work experience, work samples and other documentation such as Language, Literacy and Numeracy levels submitted will also be considered.
Mature age students will also be considered without the minimum education requirements but with relevant work experience within the chosen area of study and a demonstrated capacity to meet course requirements
Course Duration and Schedule
This program is delivered over 46 weeks of full-time study 20 hours (approx.) per week of scheduled class time. 40 weeks face-to-face study and 6 weeks holidays that includes term breaks.
This is achieved by scheduling classes for 18 hours (approx.) per week over 40 weeks (face-to-face). Over these 40 weeks, classes will be scheduled as 18 hours face-to-face and 2 hours home study
Timetable structure:
- Term 1: Weeks 1 – 10
o Break for 2 weeks: Weeks 11 – 12
- Term 2: Weeks 13 – 22
o Break for 2 weeks: Weeks 23 – 24
- Term 3: Weeks 25 – 34
o Break for 2 weeks: Weeks 35 – 36
- Term 4: Weeks 37 – 46
Units of competency
Learners must complete 13 units of competency comprising of:
- 10 common core units plus
- 3 elective units (at least 1 unit from Business Management)
