HLT52015 – Diploma of Remedial Massage

WHAT IS REMEDIAL MASSAGE?
Remedial massage is a healing treatment used to relax tense muscles while improving the body’s repair mechanisms. Remedial massage uses advanced massage techniques to treat a variety of ailments related to the musculoskeletal system. Remedial massage practitioners offer a comprehensive treatment to address the underlying cause of many musculoskeletal problems.
Employment Pathways
This qualification reflects the role of remedial massage therapists who work with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance or restrictions in range of motion (ROM). Practitioners may be self-employed or work within a larger health service. Candidates will have achieved the skills to obtain the following occupational positions: Remedial Massage Practitioner, Remedial Therapist or Remedial Massage Therapist.
Mature age students will also be considered without the minimum education requirements but with relevant work experience within the chosen area of study and a demonstrated capacity to meet course requirements
Entry Requirements for Domestic Students
- Applicants 18 years and above
- Entry into this course requires successful completion of an Australian Year 11 qualification or equivalent.
- Relevant work experience, work samples and other documentation such as Language, Literacy and Numeracy levels submitted will also be considered.
Course Duration and Schedule
This program IS delivered over 70 weeks of full-time study 20 hours (approx.) per week of scheduled class time. 60 weeks face-to-face study and 10 weeks holidays that includes term breaks.
This will be achieved by scheduling classes for 18 hours (approx.) per week over 70 weeks (face-to-face). Over these 70 weeks, classes will be scheduled as 18 hours face-to-face and 2 hours home study

- Term 2: Weeks 13 – 22
o Break for 2 weeks: Weeks 23 – 24
- Term 3: Weeks 25 – 34
o Break for 2 weeks: Weeks 35 – 36
- Term 4: Weeks 37 – 46
o Break for 2 weeks: Weeks 47 – 48
- Term 5: Weeks 49 – 58
o Break for 2 weeks: Weeks 59 – 60
- Term 6: Weeks 61 – 70

Learners must complete 21 units of competency comprising of:
- 16 core units
- 5 elective units (at least 1 unit from Business Management)

The first 80 Hours of the Supervised Clinical Training are delivered together with the HLTMSG004 – Provide massage treatment in Term 3
The 200 Hours of the Supervised Clinical Training are delivered together with the HLTMSG005 Provide remedial massage tratment in Term 5 and Term 6
